Christmas Morning

The kids woke up on Christmas morning very excited! Connor woke up first and took a look at ALL the presents that Santa left under the tree, and then he waited patiently for his sisters to wake up! Josie woke up next followed by Karley and Emma and finally Tessa woke up! Then it was time to open up presents. When Emma saw the presents she said, " There is about a 1000 presents!"

Before we opened presents, we sang Happy Birthday to Jesus!
Then Connor started passing presents out starting with Tessa first and going in order from there.

Colored Cookie Dough...

Holy Ghost sold cookie dough for a fund raiser and we bought some colored cookie dough. Little did I know it would turn into a morning of fun! The kids had a great time creating different shapes and designs out of the dough! They got quite creative. They didn't realize until afterwards how BIG some of their cookies would come turn out after they were cooked. I think at first they just thought it was play dough!! Afterwards they enjoyed some of their creations!
Tessa enjoying the conversation she heard while her siblings were creating cookies.

Karley really created a masterpiece!!
( Her's did not get baked this way!)

Josie's main creation was the flower in the middle of the pan and butterfly in the top left corner.

Emma made the snowman to give to Santa on Christmas Eve!

Connor's main creation was a mad scientist (one on the farthest right).

Cooking...

The girls really enjoy playing with play food. Now they even get the cookbook out and look for a recipe to serve the rest of the family! It's never to early to start cooking!

Journey to Bethlehem...

This is what I heard down the hallway the other day.

"We're on our way to Bethlehem to have a baby." (repeated a couple of times)

I looked down the hallway and I saw Josie pulling "Mary" on her donkey and talking about where they were going. After they passed through the kitchen, they headed into the front room their "stable".

Josie made a nice cradle for baby Jesus and showed Karley how she was suppose to kneel.
Karley was a very proud Mary and listened to everything that Josie told her to do!

"Mary" holding her baby Jesus. Below her is the cradle with straw coming out of the side.

Q & U Wedding

Josie got the be part of the Q & U wedding for kindergarten the other day. She was excited about this because she had heard a lot about it from Connor and Emma.At their weddings, Connor was a ring bearer and Emma was a flower girl. Josie was a bridesmaid this year. Here are just a couple of pictures of the whole event.

If you have never been to a Q & U wedding, it is very cute. It is set up very similar to a real wedding (guest book, ushers, programs, music, photographer, bows on the chairs, white carpet rolled out to walk down, etc )except for when it comes to saying the vows. Their vows are asking each other to stay together in words such as quick, quite, quarrel, etc. Afterwards, they process out and ride in a little toy car while the students blow bubbles at them. Then we head to the kindergarten room for some cake and juice. They even through a bouquet and garter!

The Christmas Story...

After playing outside, we all headed into the house to hear the Christmas story.

We started with an empty table with just a white cloth on it. As Dad read the Nativity story, the table started to fill up. First was the stable followed by the animals. After that, Mary and Joseph came to the table followed by the shepherds and angels, and finally the kings made their journey to see the baby Jesus.

Different family members carried up a part of the Nativity scene to make it complete.(All the grandkids had an animal to carry up.) After each character was brought forward, we sang songs. Connor and Emma played the music as we sang. This was the first time they played their Christmas songs and had a whole group of people sing along with them. They did a great job!

Berning Christmas continued...

After lunch, the kids and some adults headed outside for some outdoor fun.

My dad got Patches out and some kids went for a winter pony ride while others waited their turn for a sled ride behind the gator. If they weren't doing that, they were playing in the snow and checking out Donny's tunnel he was digging. The highlight was the gator ride; some stayed on the whole ride while others went soaring into the air at times!

The girls and I going for our gator ride while Matt drives and Connor rides in the back taking pictures!

Berning Family Christmas

On Saturday, December 18, we celebrated the Berning Christmas. We had a fun filled day with lots of activities for everyone to participate in.

To start the day we take family pictures...

Mom and Dad and all 20 grandchildren!!

Snow Play

The kids were VERY EXCITED when we had our first BIG snowfall this winter. They had a great time playing outside and digging with their shovels. Connor got to help with the snow blower for the first time this year! Karley found that walking in the snow was a little challenging at times with her shorter legs. The kids even got a chance to do some sledding at Bunker Hill and at Tim's house with Dad. One of their favorite things to do is to just sit and eat the snow!

Christmas Star

Josie was a Christmas Star this year for you Kindergarten program. She did a great job of singing her songs and shining brightly!!

St. Nick

The kids all got their shoes out and ready for St. Nick last Sunday night. Connor wanted to sleep out in the living room to see if he could "catch" St. Nick. Though in the morning, he told me he couldn't believe how quiet St. Nick was because he never even heard him come!!
Connor and Emma both wrote him a note about what they would like....
They were surprised to have a response from him in the morning!

Early risers to see what St. Nick brought them!!
Jammies for the girls, a blanket for Connor and some fruit

St.Nick night wearing their new WARM jammies and Connor enjoying his new SOFT blanket!
